Kathryn

So glad your back, I check in on your blog every day! I don't leave comments usually, but want to incourage you to continue. Love your little family, your crafting, and your decorating. Regarding the weather, I like the changes of the seasons, when I lived in a sunny climate I loved it at first, then eventually got board with the endless summer. Can you imagine?

Yvonne Stehle

Kathryn, thank you for the encouragement!
I can relate to what you say with sunny times every day. It gets boring and you only see the good sides when you dont have it anymore - like with a lot of things...

I am struggling with the German weather, too. I was spoiled with blue skies most of my mornings for the past five years. Coming back to the grey sky of Germany is not easy. I totally hear you.
Although I have to admit that my mood is more weather related as a housewife now than it was before during my work life...so I should not complain, right?
Great move to get the kids outside anyhow, they don't seem to mind.
All the best,
Yvalie

ah the weather....we in britain think this is only our obsession.....for me, i couldnt live without the seasons and i love the rain but loathe the very short days that are approaching, driving to and from work in the darkness is a killer. But I do understand how it is when you cant take younger children ourside.....its a glorious day here today but yet i will probably sit inside with my hook. bliss

Thanks to you Yvonne! It's a real pleasure to come back here, I have learn a lot from you and the way to keep home beautifully. In Geneva the weather is mild, but when autumn comes the sun disappears, so let's enjoy the last day of summer! Best regards!

Oh Yvalie: I hated this weather as a working woman, too. But one has to make the best of it. At the moment we are sorting through toys to see what we gan give away until the sun comes out again

Maybe there is a bit of British blood in me obsessing about the weather, having 5 oclock tea and after dinner mints (no mint sauce though)... Maybe one day I can live there for a while - would be so wonderful!

Thank you Eva! I never thought somebody could actually learn from me how to keep your home in a good state. Go and tell my husband! he is always complaining about the magazine staples and tiny things standing around. But that is a man-woman thing I think. Enjoy the nice weather by the lake and I so would love to have one of your macaroons right now!

Greetings from northern Spain, where the sun shines half as much as in Malaga!!
So, yes I am reliant on good weather for my happiness smile!! I can physically feel such an improvement in my body and my mood when spring comes along and suddenly everything around shines with a special light!
Now that autumn is approaching my husband is dreading my "fall blues" as he calls them. Must turn to crochet then to improve my mood!!

Ahh, best wishes for your impending move. It sounds utterly fantastic and exciting!!

Cheers, Rocío

Rocío - crocheting is always helpful in cases like this. You know the wonderful book from Jane Brocket: The gentle art of domesticity? if you dont know it, you should get it. Because of the pictures and her funny writing. According to her crochet is perfect for all occasions and with everything: music, bad weather, chocolate, videos, cake, tea, wine.......
Have a great week and thank you for the wishes concerning our move!

I love Germany, especially northern Germany. It's so beautiful here. This past year living in this country has been one of the best in my life. I think it's funny how Germans are always complaining about their life here. It's so clean, the food is cheap and delicious, the health care system is amazing, insurance is great, housing is abundant, air is fresh and clean, taxes are normal (to me anyway), government is good, it's close to Denmark and the Netherlands and a short ride to London, Paris, etc. by plane... The transportation system is great and there are so many festivals and beautiful things to be inspired by year round. It's also safe for children and there are many clean and well kept parks and forests to enjoy. We also have four seasons here. Sure, there is some rain at times, but we benefit because our farms are well watered and we can eat fresh and local - plus our fields and trees are so green --- like Ireland. I guess being non-German, being an American, I see all of the good and think it's a really nice country. No country is perfect. If you have your family, friends and a love-filled home then the rest in life is just a perk, to me at least.

P.S. For some reason I can never relate to my friends in Hamburg and Bremen who are always complaining about gray skies... Then one day my friend in Bremen called me and said, "It's pouring and gray here" and I said, "Not in Hannover - blue skies and lovely!". This happened many times over the course of several months and then we both realized the Hannover has nicer weather, I guess we are in a valley here and it helps somehow, I don't know. The weather, to me, is the same as in Boston only without the humid, long hot summers, flooding in the Fall, blizzards in the winter with 6 month long winters and mosquitoes that eat you alive when you go anywhere between May-October. ha ha!!! Oh wait, it's not like here at all - it's BETTER in Hannover. :)

Hi Holly Thanks for stopping by.
It seems you found the place to be. I am glad you love your life here and want to tell everybody. The thing with gloomy skies and bad weather might be that I am more prone to depressive moods because of various reasons I wont get into here so I can only tell you in that respect life was easier for me at Lake Constance with much better weather! As for the rest I second you on all that! But denmark, London and all the beautiful places are very much within reach when you are just wife and husband. But it is much farer away when you have three children and then sitting in a sunny garden is nicer than dreaming of London on rainy days. Maybe youll remember this blog entry when you are out with a baby in a stroller on a rainy day and nearly nobody wants to hold open a door for you. And I remember your email from last year complaining about the grumpiness of the people here. It is like that and it is not. Lets talk again in ten years time. Enjoy the happiness you found here and I will cheer up when it is time for me and I am over major changes!

Are you also reliant on good weather to be in a good mood? Or are you anyhow living where the sun is shining almost every day? I am really a moaner when it is raining.

I'm curious to find out what blog platform you are working with? I'm having some minor security issues with my latest website and I'd like to find something more risk-free. Do you have any recommendations?
